Welcome to Barratt Folk

Hi, I am Richard and I first consciously got into Folk at a Folk Song Concert at the Lichfield Folk Festival a few years ago, closely followed by singing at a Singaround. My goal in providing this site is to share with you some ideas of what I have found to be going on in Folk Music and Song around the Central South Coast of England, particularly Hampshire.  (Geography is not my strong point so some events and places which I have enjoyed outside this area are also included.)

The links at the top of the page will take you to some information within this site which I find helpful and which will lead you to some of my experiences, in terms of Clubs I enjoy visiting, publications which help me find out what is happening, and some of the Festivals I try to get along to. There is a calendar of forthcoming events which includes details of programmes at some of the clubs I have visited as well as Festivals and events which are coming up soon.

The Festival season is well under way, Gosport Easter Festival gave a chance to meet friends and circulate. Oxford will be upon us on the 11th to the 13th April, if you see me wandering round make sure that I have found the EDS stall. If you haven't thought about it before perhaps this year is the time to join the EFDSS (English Folk Dance and Song Society).
Wessex Folk Club have had yet another move, I will hopefully update my link page soon. I had an exciting night out the other week to the Windmill Acoustic Music Club [otherwise Ewshot Folk Club]The Windmill, Church Lane, Ewshot, Nr Farnham, a very friendly group. (I had better get a link sorted out before I get up there again
If you find a Folk Song Club I haven't mentioned along the South Coast, particularly in or near Hampshire, please let me know. Ken did just that and within a few weeks I had been along for a visit and have now added The City Folk Club at Chichester to the event calendar.

Some ideas for events in the area you may wish to try can be found in the Event Calendar

If you know of any alterations to dates mentioned please let me know at the contact addresses.
If you know somewhere else I should be going to so that I can listen to Folk Songs or music please let me know.

The information is as accurate as reasonably possible. Please remember that clubs open or close and groups form and separate on a regular basis. If you have information which contradicts these pages or if you feel they need updating or you just disagree with the words (Or if you just want to say Hi) please contact us

Feel free to browse around the site. Thanks for visiting and I look forward to seeing you here again soon.
