A well known duo who don’t need my link to get people looking for them. Alround entertainers this pair can use a sound check as a full entertainment session. Their mix of traditional and modern songs and music holds everybody spellbound. I will never be able to look at a fish and chip shop in Yeovil again without a shiver of apprehension. It was a great ending to the Festival Year to hear them at Fylde this year.
A singer songwriter of considerable pedigree. Ever since we first saw him we tried to plan a summer visit to Maryport to listen to the Songs of the Sea which he advertised so well. Last year we made it. He forgot to warn us to take wellies though. His CDs cover a variety of topics and take you through the range of his powerful voice.
His songs of the sea, Diving and Flanders made a varied introduction to his talent Hopefully we will catch up with him again soon to hear some more and perhaps buy his other CD.
‘Warm-hearted and rich-toned harmony group’ these words which are from their web page say it all, and yet they no more than scratch the surface of this trio. For the real effect watch out for them at a club or Festival near you or if you run a club consider offering them a booking.
I first heard this band at the Gosport and Fareham Easter Folk Festival a couple of years ago. They have been back and were just as thrilling a sound as before. If you haven't heard Mick's voice yet you don't know what you are missing. It was great to see them down at the Wickham Festival last year. This year's treat has been his visit south with Frank McLachlan to various Folk Clubs, including outstanding Workshops at Lewes.
A gentleman of the stage, sometimes supported by his daughters as ‘The Rockchicks’. George, born at an early age with the sound of Tyneside rivet guns ringing in his ears, is larger than life and twice as hilarious, his vibrant enthusiasm and sheer joy when performing make for an astounding piece of entertainment. A regular on the local folk scene and George also appears at many events around the country and is well worth listening out for.
Another well known all round entertainer, Shep hosts a variety of events throughout the year. His ‘Cabaret Caffs’ in The Fernham Hall in Fareham are missed by many. The loss of this one evening a month has set back Fareham's musical entertainment considerably. He can also be seen around the Southsea bandstand, The Pompey Beer Festival and many other events. If you want something slightly different ask him about his Theme nights on the Warrior, or take aglance at his web page. Watch out in the Local papers and if you find him planning a gig which I haven't included in the Events Calendar please let me know. Hope you have bought his latest CD.
