Artists List Pt1

Emily and Hazel Askew

A musical and singing Duo we have been watching for some time. When we first heard them a few years ago Ann asked them for a copy of their first CD when it came out. They have recently performed at the Fareham Easter Festival and at a local club and they have clearly moved on considerably from the shy but very talented youngsters we first met. Their performance is enthusiastic and enjoyable and now I find that their website is much better than this one. Is there no end to their talents.

Ann Barratt

A lady with a delightful Scottish voice singing a mixture of songs from around the UK. (OK so I have a personal interest.) Contact via Ann's contact

Bastringue

‘A motley collection of musicians and singers loosely thrown together as a band’ the definition continues with words like cheap, and reflecting a rustic charm in their playing. This group on the other hand are multitalented with a variety of musical tastes. For details please contact bastringue@barrattfolk.co.uk

Brass Monkey

Martin Carthy and John Kirkpatrick, Howard Evans, Roger Williams and Martin Brinsford. When I first stumbled across this group at the Ashcroft Arts Centre in Fareham I didn't know what to expect. Brass Monkey visited Forest Folk this year and were exhilirating yet again. Looking forward to hearing them again.

The Bundell Brothers

A Hampshire Duo with a lively attitude to life and singing. Have heard them at both Folk Clubs and Festivals. Nowadays you are likely to catch them at their own Folk Club but unfortunately I have lost the details, if anybody could forward them to me I would appreciate it.

Claret

A cheerful trio from the Midlands. I first came across them at Lichfield Folk Festival.  Sadly they do not seem to come down to the South Coast very often. Any organisers out there willing to invite them? They play as residents at the Cheque-Mates Folk Club, Hopwas near Tamworth but we have not yet visited them at the club (But we have been in touch and are going to try to get there.).

Cloudstreet

A dynamic duo from Australia. The first experience I had of this amazing pair was at the Fylde Folk Festival a few years ago. There performances are exciting and astounding. If you haven't heard them yet encourage your local folk club to book them. If the organisers haven't heard them they are in for a treat, if they have heard them they will probably agree that it is time for another visit.
In the Autumn of 07 I have met up with these guys a couple of times, some of their early pieces have been re-visited and each piece has developed magnificently. These songs were performed faultlessly before but somehow Nicole and John have managed to make them even more exciting.

Anne Coleman

A Southampton based singer with a delightful voice and a web page which is well worth a good look around. To enter at the beginning go to the portal. You may be lucky enough to catch her at the Fo'c'sle Folk Club.
